Since Thomas Jefferson America has had 245 military or political interventions — this is not a US foreign policy talent, in spite of the fact that there are so many wonderful Americans in this fantastic country.

A noted pioneer in the field of Peace Studies, Johan Galtung makes the case for incorporating human rights as key to successful peace building around the world. Series: “Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice Distinguished Lecture Series”

Breaking the Cycle of Violent Conflict with Johan Galtung

Predictions

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Galtung has made several predictions of when the USA will no longer be a functioning superpower, a stance that has attracted some controversy. After the beginning of the Iraq War, he revised his prediction of the “downfall of the US-Empire”, seeing it as more imminent. He claims the U.S. will go through a phase as a fascist dictatorship on its path down, and that the Patriot Act is a symptom of this. He claims the election of George W. Bush cost the U.S. empire five years – although he admits that this estimate was set a bit arbitrarily. He now sets the date for the end of the American Empire at 2020, but not the American Republic. Like Great Britain, Russia and France, he says the American Republic will be better off without the Empire.

    TROPHY – IRON DOME

The ASPRO-A (Trophy) active protection system developed by the Israeli RAFAEL Armament Development Authority rapidly detects and tracks any anti-tank threat, classifies it, estimates the optimal intercept point in space and finally neutralizes it away from the platform using a countermeasure. The threat detection and warning subsystem consists of several sensors, including search radar with four flat-panel antennas, located around the protected vehicle, to provide full hemispherical coverage. The neutralization process will take place only if the threat is about to hit the platform.

INTERNATIONAL CHOKE POINT GULF NARROWS TO 34 MILES

The following comments from Caitlin Talmadge, a political scientist at George Washington University: “There are also some recent signs that Iran itself understands the additional economic and political costs it would pay in the event that oil could not get out of the Strait. After all, Iran’s own economy depends on the ability to export oil and to import refined gasoline, as does the economy of one of its major international patrons, China. It is hard to imagine that aggression in the Strait would provoke anything but a strengthened international coalition against Iran though it is possible that the regime sees domestic political benefits in the current crisis, or is intentionally using it as a way to drive up oil prices.” [Source: The Monkey Cage, Blog of the Year]

U.S. would probably capture and hold the Islands of Hormuz which would not be returned anytime soon leaving another long term military base that the Pentagon would need to budget for.
