THE ENTIRE WORLD BECOMES MODERN!

WITH THE EXPANSION OF THE GLOBAL MODERN MIDDLE CLASS

Herbert E. Meyer served during the Reagan Administration as Special Assistant to the Director of Central Intelligence and Vice Chairman of the CIA’s National Intelligence Council. In these positions, he managed production of the U.S. National Intelligence Estimates and other top-secret projections for the President and his national security advisers. Mr. Meyer is widely credited with being the first U.S. Government official to forecast the Soviet Union’s collapse — a forecast for which he later was awarded the U.S. National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, which is the Intelligence Community’s highest honor.

In this interview with Dr Nicholas Beecroft, Herb says why Western Civilisation is worth defending, why it’s the best civilisation so far and why it’s fast becoming THE global civilisation. He is very optimistic for the future but believes that the biggest challenge we face is in helping all of the rest of the world make it into modernity whilst minimising dangerous threats. He draws upon his experience in the vanguard of the defeat of the Soviet Communist system to inform our strategy to deal with existing challenges including Islamic Fundamentalism, Iran, Russia, demographic collapse, lack of faith in our civilisation, energy security and the domestic culture war.

“There’s no shortage of gossip in the tech community in regards to how the so-called Google Glasses would work. The basic idea is that some kind of wearable computer that displays on the lenses of a pair of glasses. As incredible as that sounds, there’s not a whole lot of tech out there that really fits that description closely. The idea that these lenses would act as displays for information seems really interesting, but there’s a need to combine a certain amount of function and fashion, while somehow not make all of this sound like a gadget from a spy thriller. But it’s not a spy thriller, we’ve been told the glasses are real, and that we will more than likely be seeing a prototype of them at Google’s developer conference this June.” [Source: Geek.com]

The top 10 emerging technologies for 2012

By: Global Agenda Council on Emerging Technologies

Global Agenda Council

meets the Sheikh of Dubai

Emerging technologies are critical to building a sustainable and resilient future. But without new understanding, tools and capabilities, their safe and successful development is far from guaranteed.

At the Summit on the Global Agenda 2011 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Emerging Technologies asked some of the world’s leading minds within the entire GAC Network which technology trends would have the greatest impact on the state of the world in the near future.

Below, the Global Agenda Council on Emerging Technologies presents the technological trends expected to have major social, economic and environmental impacts worldwide in 2012. They are listed in order of greatest potential to provide solutions to global challenges:

  • 1. Informatics for adding value to information

The quantity of information now available to individuals and organizations is unprecedented in human history, and the rate of information generation continues to grow exponentially. Yet, the sheer volume of information is in danger of creating more noise than value, and as a result limiting its effective use. Innovations in how information is organized, mined and processed hold the key to filtering out the noise and using the growing wealth of global information to address emerging challenges.

  • 2. Synthetic biology and metabolic engineering

The natural world is a testament to the vast potential inherent in the genetic code at the core of all living organisms. Rapid advances in synthetic biology and metabolic engineering are allowing biologists and engineers to tap into this potential in unprecedented ways, enabling the development of new biological processes and organisms that are designed to serve specific purposes – whether converting biomass to chemicals, fuels and materials, producing new therapeutic drugs or protecting the body against harm.

Dr. Michio Kaku is a theoretical physicist and the Henry Semat Professor at the City College of New York and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, where he has taught for more than 30 years. He is a graduate of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and earned his doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. Kaku is one of the founders of string field theory, a field of research within string theory. String theory seeks to provide a unified description for all matter and the fundamental forces of the universe.

His book The Physics of the Impossible addresses how science fiction technology may become possible in the future. His other books include Hyperspace: A Scientific Odyssey Through Parallel Universes, Time Warps, and the Tenth Dimension , selected as one of the best science books of 1994 by both the New York Times and The Washington Post, and Parallel Worlds: A Journey Through Creation, Higher Dimensions, and the Future of the Cosmos , a finalist for the Samuel Johnson Prize.”Source>>>>
