Born in Budapest in 1930, Soros survived the Nazi occupation of Hungary during World War II as well as the postwar imposition of Stalinism in his homeland. Soros fled Communist-dominated Hungary in 1947 and made his way to England. Before graduating from the London School of Economics in 1952, Soros studied Karl Popper’s work in the philosophy of science as well as his critique of totalitarianism, The Open Society and Its Enemies, which maintains that no philosophy or ideology has the final word on the truth and that societies can only flourish when they allow for democratic governance, freedom of expression, a diverse range of opinion, and respect for individual rights.

The EU project will work. When the citizens of the EU nations become homogeneous EU citizens. Not Greeks. Not Germans. Not French etc.
Will they become EU citizens? Or an extension of US pop culture? Will the wealthy be the homogenous citizens i.e. “cosmopolitan” EU Citizens whilst the poor cling to nationality as it gives them some sense of self worth and identity when they have nothing else?
The EU project is a noble project, but will not work. The USA was mostly English. The migrants were quickly absorbed into the culture. They “Americanised” rapidly. The Federal system was possible only because the founding fathers had a similar culture.
Will the majority of EU citizens vote for treaty changes, effectively handing over political sovereignty? It is a big step. What would the global language be? French? German? English? What about Mandarin? I think English due to USA pop culture (Hollywood and MTV).
So is England the leader of this “New” EU direction? Is the Commonwealth expanded?
A global currency is the same as the Euro. It would require nations handing over sovereignty . This would not happen.
Individual currencies is the key. This promotes survival of the most prudent and industrious. The EU social experiment is a flop. It must disintegrate now and return to free trade and labour mobility but with independent currencies. Only then will Governments be accountable to their voters. Largess and failure will be met with political dismissal at the polling booth. Voters will be aware of policies that cause harm or promote prosperity. Having a welfare system that keeps failed states alive is a recipe for apathy and a lack of scrutiny by the public. Economic pain makes even the most apathetic voter watch and understand the economic and legal issues that are causing their personal financial pain.
